In this case the carpet is installed ‘loose’ over a layer of underlay. The carpet is secured at the perimeter of the room by stretching and clipping it to nailboards. The joins are bonded with carpet tape. This type is popular in domestic environment and in some luxury hotels.
Here the carpet is glued directly to the substrate (or to the underlay which in turn is glued to the substrate). This type is popular in commercial and healthcare sectors.
Carpet tiles provide alternative to direct glued carpet. Other than being very resilient )most commercial tiles come with 15 year warranty), if properly installed, individual tiles can be removed and replaced should they get soiled or damaged.
Sheet vinyl provides resilient, hygienic and moisture impermeable surface. It is therefore extensively used in heavy duty commercial/health care/food preparation facilities. Despite being impermeable, waterproofing membrane is advisable in wet areas.
These types of flooring give very similar look but work best in different environments, will feel different, and require different installation techniques.
Come in a huge range of sizes, shapes and colours. Often installed in wet or high traffic areas. Require waterproofing membrane applied in wet areas. In commercial application, the TCO can be higher than with alternative finishes.
